Creating an Advert: Idea Generation

In this week's class, we started to discuss and form ideas for advertising. As I am making an advertisement related to my progression route, I wanted to develop ideas for paint such as acrylics and paper. I started off by searching for advertisements relating to paints and colours.

Walpamur 1950s Paint Advertisement
Found in: Pixels

Walpamur has made a poster advertisement for their paint product around 1950s. They focused on the different types of product available: water paints, satin finish paints, and enamel paints, and then emphasised on their quality with the catchphrase 'A good start to a perfect finish.' In the back they added a couple seemingly as if they're choosing paint for their homes, showing it is family-friendly.

Olympic Paint Advertisement
Found in: AdForum

Olympic on the other hand focused on how paint has toxic odour, so they emphasised that their paint does not smell as much, and the use of green colours makes the paint seem more natural and inviting. They had compared the amount of odour in their paint to their prices to additionally tell the viewers that their paint is cheap.

Pantone "Glowing, Glowing, Gone" Campaign

Pantone is well-known for making colour palettes, and they have utilised these well in making their campaigns. While not related to paints specifically, I was interested in their usage of colours. Pantone was facing some backlash due to past actions— they chose Living Coral as their colour of the year when corals were dying due to climate change— they had utilised this chance to promote this campaign. By using vibrant, bright colours, they had captured the attention of viewers and imagery of beautiful corals, they carried the message contrasting to the bright imagery.

I would add my own inspirations and imagery to my advertisement, I hope that I would be able to integrate some ideas that I have researched here.
