Creating an Advert: Pixlr Practice

Making an advert can be difficult, especially when the programs are unfamiliar. So, for this post I will be making some practice advert images using Pixlr as a way to get used to it while sampling some ideas.

Using Pixlr E in Google Chrome.

Opening a new image on a A4 setting with a white background.

I uploaded a stock image that I downloaded from Pexels. Then I resized it so that there is some space for text at the bottom and controlled the saturation and blur level of the photo.

I further smudged the background and saturated the image using the Blur/Smudge/Sharpen tool, Sponge/Color tool, and Color Replace tools on the toolbar on the left. Then I added text using the Text tool, which I later edited to Bebas Neue font and to a blue colour.

I made a logo using the Logo Maker function from the Tailor Brands website. I first selected the title of my imaginary company, Nectere Aqua, then chose paint industry under the subject physical product. After selecting the styles and logo types, I edited on the finished samples. I clipped the final product which I saved on to the PC.

The clipped logo was then put on the advertisement. For the rest of the time, I added some other catchphrases with the Text and Shape tools.

Then this is the final product, saved as .PNG from Pixlr website:

I really like how the text and the fonts look consistent throughout the poster, but the placement of the logo and the decorations could have used more work. The logo looks awkwardly stuck on the advertisement, and I really would have loved to put some paint dropping pictures in the buckets. I am satisfied with how I made the buckets in the front pop out, but the saturation and colours seem too contrasting and the blurred background feels unnatural.
